Curriculum

The curriculum means all of the activities in which the students participate from the time they arrive in school to the time they leave. It is a combination of  developmental lessons/activities and the National Curriculum. Examples of development skills include:

  • Learning to learn – sitting, attending, listening;
  • Learning to use vision/hearing, hand and body movements;
  • Learning to be independent in eating, toileting and dressing skills;
  • Learning to behave appropriately in social situations;
  • Learning to use community resources independently and with confidence.

Each student is continually assessed and has an Individual Educational Programme which is taught in a combination of individual and group sessions.

At times some curriculum areas e.g. communication, social independence and physiotherapy may be given more curriculum time than some of the National Curriculum subjects, but the balance will vary according to the individual needs of each child.

We aim to provide a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum which prepares our students for adult life.

Homework.

All our pupils have individual Education Programmes which are sent home to parents.

Homework from Redbridge involves parents in reinforcing and giving opportunity for pupils to practice skills being learned in school.

More formal homework will also be set by teachers in partnership with parents, bearing in mind the particular needs of the family setting.
