Prospectus "Community Involvement, Home & School Links and Absence"

Community Involvement.

A fundamental part of Redbridge's philosophy is that the students will play an active part in the life of the community. Personal responsibility is given great emphasis throughout the curriculum and we aim for the school to be seen as a valued and contributing part of the local community.Community fireman school visit

Redbridge welcomes students from a wide range of professions who complete training placements with us. We hope to encourage them with a positive and enthusiastic outlook on our pupils' abilities and achievements.

We are fortunate to have good community links with Longmoor Lane Fire Station and our two major football clubs, Liverpool and Everton.

Home and School Links.

Emphasis is placed on creating close parent/school contact. Parents are welcome to visit the school at any time but, if wishing to see a particular member of staff it is advisable to make a prior arrangement. Home visits can be arranged. Link books go home regularly and parents' comments are valued. Telephone contact is welcomed and teachers are usually available between 9.00 and 9.30am and after 3.15pm. Parents are invited to their child's Annual Review of Special Educational Needs and regular parent/teacher meetings are encouraged to discuss each child's progress.

There are many roles within the school in which parent-volunteers may assist

e.g. listening to readers, community outings Please contact the school if you would like to help in this way

An educational review may be called when a particular issue needs discussion. Staff are encouraged to make video recordings of students to help communicate observations and achievements of the students to parents and professionals.

A formal procedure exists should any parent have a concern/complaint regarding the school's curriculum, religious instruction and collective worship. The Local Education Authority guidelines regarding the complaints procedure are available from the Headteacher.

Absence.

The Department of Education requires schools to maintain records of pupils who have absences from school. Authorised absences are those where an  explanatory note has been sent to school by the child's parents/carers and the Headteacher has agreed the absence be authorised. Unauthorised absences are those where no reason for the absence is sent to the school or the Headteacher judges the reason for absence not valid. The school's absence record for the last academic year can be found on the current information sheet at the rear of the prospectus.

It would great assist the school if parents/carers could follow the procedure below if their child is absent from school.

For hospital appointments etc, please let the school know in writing before the appointment.

After an absence for illness, a brief note of explanation is required.

Request for an absence for reasons other than illness should be made, in writing, as far in advance as possible directly to the Headteacher.
